Experienced journalist, specialised in sensitive health stories.

I write commissioned features and campaign content for charities and foundations working on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), trauma, and child welfare – including work for the Leathersellers' Foundation.

I help early-stage health and therapy startups develop their content strategy – from website copy and tone of voice to launch content and ongoing editorial planning. I produced the full content directory for ProblemShared's launch.

I have extensive content development and production experience from my career as a writer, and I have also trained independently in search engine marketing and writing for UX.

Curtis McGlinchey, head of communications at the Leathersellers, said: “I have really enjoyed working with Ellie on commissioned features about charities working to tackle and prevent the consequences of adverse childhood experiences. Ellie is professional, knowledgable, responsive, and approaches difficult subjects, such as trauma, with care and sensitivity.

Helen Holmes-Fogg, NHS primary care CEO, said: “Ellie has provided superbly efficient and professional support. We rely on Ellie’s expertise and skills not only as a great journalist but picking up the baton where she can. Great person too!”

Kate Prentice, freelance head of marketing, said: “Ellie has been a delight to work with at NASGP. She is a talented writer who is very good at turning information into engaging and interesting news story. She is versatile, adaptable and stays calm under pressure. I would recommend Ellie to any business looking for a skilled communications expert.”

Case study: Leathersellers features

I worked with Curtis McGlinchey, head of communications, on two features for the Leathersellers’ Review.

Working directly with Leathersellers’ grantees and their service users, I wrote case-study-led features on how grants were supporting grantees to reduce the impact of adverse childhood experiences on children and adults.

In 2026 Curtis went on to commission a long-read with an affiliated expert and a further two grantees.

Through Curtis, I also worked with the Goldsmiths Foundation on similar content.

Case study: ARRS campaign

I wrote over 20 news stories on the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme for NASGP’s weekly digest, reaching around 8,000 GPs. These stories translated policy updates into clear, informative content for working GPs.

I supported our founder-chair's public voice on the issue, drafting position statements and scripts that carried his message consistently across socials and trade press. In 2024-25 he spoke on a panel about the scheme at Pulse LIVE (400 attendees), wrote a guest post for Pulse (48k readers) and gave named comment in other stories.

He also spoke to GP Online on successive occasions and was invited to write a guest blog for PracticeIndex (11,000 members) for the first time.

Campaigns supported by GPs across the industry ensured the scheme was eventually widened to include all GPs in 2026.

Case study: NASGP’s weekly digest email

An email newsletter from the National Association of Sessional GPs (NASGP). In 2026 Ellie Broughton is the communications director for NASGP, supporting portfolio and locum GPs to work in the NHS without using agencies. Ellie developed the digest.

I turn policy updates, sector news and member research into clear, engaging weekly communications — currently reaching 2,500+ healthcare professionals.

I developed a weekly email for the National Association of Sessional GPs’ GP membership, reporting essential sector news, compliance advice and and product updates.

Three years on, recent average open rates are over 60% and average clicks were 14%.

Members frequently cited the digest as a benefit: ‘I find the weekly newsletter helpful for keeping on top of the current GP situation’, ‘I enjoy the email updates about current issues’, ‘I like to be given information about how sessional GPs are doing as a whole’.

Case study: ProblemShared

Ellie Broughton worked for ProblemShared in 2021 developing its directory of therapy topics its clinicians could help with including neurodivergence, trauma, substance use and grief.

ProblemShared is a practitioner-led, CQC regulated online mind health provider. I worked with Tika Nabarro on the launch of the ProblemShared website, populating the ‘Conditions’ segment with a directory of challenges that ProblemShared’s therapists could help with.
